Questions homeowners ask

Why a ZIP code and not my address?
A ZIP's first three digits identify a region, so this tool can place you in the right state without any address, account or data leaving your browser. It is deliberately coarse: it reports the capital-city measurement, not a site survey.
What does kWh/m²/day mean?
It is the average solar energy landing on one square meter per day — the same number installers call “peak sun hours.” 5.0 kWh/m²/day means the sun delivers, on average, the energy equivalent of five hours of full-strength noon sun every day.
Is this my roof's number?
No. It is a 2024 measurement at the state capital, and even there it varies year to year. A real roof adds tilt, orientation, shading and inverter losses. Use the model sliders for a rough feel, then get an installer's shading analysis before signing anything.
Where does the data come from?
Open-Meteo's archive API (ERA5 re-analysis): real measured daily radiation sums for 2024, fetched 2026-08-08. NREL's NSRDB is the reference-quality U.S. equivalent — linked in the honest print below.
