How to read the scorecard
Price per watt is total price divided by system size — the number that survives every rebate, loan and "free panel" claim. The cheapest monthly payment is not the cheapest quote once you look at $/W and loan costs.
- Total price means the cash price on the contract — before any tax credit, utility incentive or financing math.
- Size is the nameplate capacity in kW-AC (or DC if the quote only gives DC) — use what the contract states and compare like with like.
- Larger systems often score cheaper per watt — that is normal and not a red flag on its own.
- A quote far above the market isn't automatically dishonest — but it deserves a "why?" before a signature. See the $/W guide for the full walkthrough.
